DNB (Oph)is a good choice provided you do the same in an good eye institute.The experience u gain(clinically and surgically) will help u decide whether u would like to further specialise(Fellowship) or not.

Great to see such a lovely ophthal forum on rxpg.. before today i used to hang around only in the AIPGE forum..

I have secured rank 297 in AIPGE 2008 and have taken up Ophthalmology at TNMC Nair Mumbai. My joining date is 2nd May. I wish to know the following before I join my course:

1) Which are the must-have textbooks that I'd have to buy before course starts? And are the new editions going to be coming out shortly?
2) Which are the must-have instruments during residency and which is the best company for them? and What is the approximate cost of these instruments?
3) What would be the approximate cost of investment in instruments after completion of course and for starting off basic private set-up?
-Cost of good quality Slit Lamp?
-Cost of Lensometer?
-Cost of Set for refractive error testing?
- Etc etc...
