BGM alreay mentioned about Foxit Reader... its wonderful.... its opens very quickly... n its an extremely small file as well to download... those on data transfer plan will love it....
i would like to mention one more advantage of using Foxit, which i feel is quite useful...
many of my batchmates faced a prob while printing PGI's app form... they couldnt enlarge the pdf file font... as a result their printed forms were small,, compared to A4 size... thers no option to increase the font size,,, to enlarge,, in adobe's acrobat before printing... its stuck at 94%....
in this condition, Foxit is damn cool... it allows to enlarge the font size before printing... to get a perfect A4 size print....

can anybody help me out on the follwoing choices considering 've jus joined as orthopaedician in a high work load institute, and wanna buy a laptop and have made the following check list:
all have core2duo(1.66ghz),15.4',>160gb hd(not a big issue fr me),2gb ram if not mentioned specifically,n webcam n stuff
1.sony vaio fZ series rs 49k,downside being 1gb ram,200gb HD so wud've to shell out rs2500 more
upside being high quality webcam, and processor is 1.83Ghz
downside: no special things like lenovo.seems priced high
2.lenovo Y510,rs 49k, all well n good with 4.1 dolby stereo system and inbuilt TV tuner(i like that feature don' know how much use it wud be in hostel),very good sound
downside: reliability of lenovo over sony.
3.compaq 773TU:all well n good 44k,
downside:service not as good as sony, lansing speaker sound is bad.heard many complaints
4. acer 5920: 36k, all well n good, look is a lil bit not my type.
downside: mainly have heard acer products giving very bad perfrmnce after one yr,built not sturdy.
i haven't looked fr dell coz there's no service here n i wanna touch a product before buying.so main thing is under 50k with core2duo n 2gb ram at least,n very importantly shud not give much trouble..kindly help if any newer lap in that range 'm missing.

Hi,
Can u please tell me how much money are you planning to spend on the laptop?
Then it will be easy to get a more specific list.

Hi Aditya,
Here's a comparison of all the four laptops
Its a big chart so i have divided it into 6 parts so as to fit in this page.
Please click on each of the pic to zoom them.
The products are in this order,
ACER * LENOVO * COMPAQ * SONY

They are good. Depends on what you wish....
If you are are a technical geek, you could very well get a 'blank' laptop with just DOS installed and then install your own open source linux like Ubuntu (a linux distribution) instead of installing pirated version of windows etc; This way you could save 4-5k (systems with pre installed OS come at a higher price due to licensing fees for the OS).
The benefit of linux distribution like ubuntu is that anti virus becomes necessary only for other's protection - to prevent windows viruses from being transmitted through you. Anti virus is not required at all, though free ones like Clam Antivirus is available for ubuntu which is quite fast.
But it is not so easy to get the laptop running with linux distribution. There are many glitches and it might take about a week or more to get it working with 90% of capabilities of the laptop. Still some hardware might not function and then we have no choice but to wait until someone finds an answer/solution.
Some known issues:
Battery failure
Mother board glitches in some models
Recovery Disk Creation failure (very common)
Not all issues occur with all models or all pieces of equipment.
You could go for Athlon which comes at a slightly lesser price. It is decent, gives good graphics acceleration, Nvidia support (gaming geeks will love it).
I haven't listed everything... but it is a gist of what you might look for.
