my professor used to say that first few months in pediatrics are difficult.most people flee at this time. but if u survive it ,there is no other field like it..it is realy interesting and rewarding.so stick to it for couple a months and then ,if u still feel the same.its better to change, what say?????

its only the first 6 months thats tough .. by thattime u know most of the doses by heart and its a piece of cake to manage emergencies ... and u start feeling confident and start liking the subject .. if u dont like it even then, better leave...

I have been in pediatrics for >25 years and this is one of the very satisfying specialties resultwise.
How long have you been in peds? Are u doing pure house job or registered for PG?
What has changed in this period of time since you last made a conscious decision to get in to peds?
Do you find the subject uninteresting or the environment unfriendly?
Do you find it difficult to tackle the kids?
Are your other colleagues in other subjects making you feel inferior?
Peds too has traveled a long way and is no longer only treatment of diarrhea and fixing IV lines and remembering the dosage better than most of other colleagues. The neonatology, PICU, genetics, IEM make it more challenging and exciting.
Before you decide to quit, do think what options will be available to you and how sure you are that 6 months down the line you will not start having same feelings about the new specialty?
