Registrar/junior consultant earns about R15-25k after tax in government hospitals, if opting out of pension and medical insurance (you will then have to pay privately for these)
This is in the BMJ article!
A private consultant, like anywhere in the world, can earn a huge amount.
I hope this helps.

Hi
Cape Town is attractive and competition is stiff for posts at all levels. It is easier to get into the system via the rural route, which is why I mentioned it.
If you have UK/USA/European registration you [/i]should be exempt from basic exams. Otherwise you will have to write the PLAB
equivalent.
Registration with GMC equivalent (HPCSA) requires approval of your undergrad degree by the authorities in SA. They have a list of universities that are approved but it is confidential!!!
There are general but not specific rules as each case is taken by the Dept of Health on its merit.
Once registered you apply for a job by sending CV. There are so many vacancies outside the big cities, chances are good.
Then you apply for a visa similar to Highly Skilled Migrant program in UK.
Then you fly!
Annoyingly this process is slow and protracted. That is why we set up RHI to facilitate it; our recruiters have all the contacts in the various depts and make registration quicker - from 6 months down to 2-3 months on average.
All details in the BMJ article above -please look at it!
I hope this helps guys!!!

Thank you for your application to work in South Africa.
In order to work as a Medical Doctor in S.A. you need to apply to the National Department of Health : Foreign Workforce Management Program, for a letter of endorsement towards registration and employability.
PLEASE NOTE: - from FWMP
It is the current policy of the National Department of Health, applicable to the South African Health Sector not to endorse remunerative employment opportunities for citizens of developing countries, especially SADC countries. Unfortunately, the current policy of the Department does not allow recruitment of individual health professionals from developing countries, unless through a government-to-government agreement. The Department is, therefore, not in a position to support applications from developing countries for registration and employment in the South African Public Health Sector.
If you wish to apply, please complete their application form – see attached - and post it to them directly. Once you have received a reply from the Foreign Workforce Management Program you will know if you can proceed with your HPCSA registration and finding a position in S.A.
Yours sincerely
