As I have mentioned in previous post, there is no easy money. There is no easy way out, there are no shortcuts to success. But again as i've mentioned earlier, imo the returns for the amount of efforts you put in are better and you get money in hand when you are relatively young. There are very few people who are in medicine not because of lure of big bucks. There is no shame in having desire to make money. I don't know whether I'm being naïve but thats what I think honestly. I can say there is also a bit of pull of glamour of corporate world, working for me. Besides that I'm not in medicine by my choice either. I might be surely sounding childish by this time, but I'm clearly cofused with the choices at hand. Decision is tough but ultimately I have to make choices.
Thank for you replies, nice thread.

I think if you are doing MBA
only for the sake of money or you don't like medicine you would find youself in greater mess than the one in which you already are. Your thinking is not only naive but plain retard (word may sound harsh but thats the first word which came to mind). Forget the question regarding career switch, the first thing they ask is, what are you going to do with a MBA
degree. MBA
is not the destination but only an instrument to get to you destination. If you've any concrete ideas regarding what exactly you are going to do with MBA
, then only you should take it. You may earn money but at the end of the day job satisfaction may be the same which you get in medicine or even worse. Going after glamour is very risky business. Please ask followimg question to youself -
do you have any business acumen?
How seriously do you read business sections of newspaper? Do you really understand the stuff? Do you understand what subprime mortgage crisis is? Do you understand impact of slowing down of US economy on Indian stock markets?
Key here is to finding out your core capabilities. Find out the things you've an aptitude. Do your best at whatever you decide to do, try to be at the top of your occupation and money will follow.
That were my two cents. I can understand your dilemmas, I've been there done that. Best of luck buddy!

well said .. Cybaba. i totally agree !!
Hey bigeasy,
i undrstand wht u r going thru, i was @ur stage about few months back .... giving reasons similar to urs and tryin to convince myself as well as othrs that i really want to do a MBA
. but then i reallised my flaws in thinking ...
All i am saying is either way u decide to go ... better make a qucik decision and stick to it ... You cannot afford to lose one yr just thinkin what u want to do. Both d entrance exams need 7-8 months of prepratioins .... and u can't make a switch mid way in aug-sep !!!!!!
You are ur best judge !!!!

i feel it is worth goin 4 an MBA
after MBBS....atleast you are well paid in the corporate sector....you can live a good life.
when it comes to working hours here to you to work a lot startin from your internship to pg to SR . all you have to work more harder then a person in the corporate sector with an MBA
degree............
this is what i feel ,,let me know what you all feel

hi .. i have read the entire thread right from the beginning and am pretty impressed with all the viewpoints here
well im an intern will be finishing in feb '09 and am myself interested in doing the hospital administration course
i myself am confused abt gng which way but am really interested in doing a hosp administration course coz i feel i have the managerial ability in me.
i have the foll questions to ask
1) masters in hosp/health administration (MHA
) and MBA
in hosp. administration are two different courses
whats the difference between the two and how is either beneficial ( have read the prospects of the MBA
in ur thread)
2) institutes like tiss, symbiosis, bits etc all offer masters in hosp. administration(MHA
)... how r they different from the MBA
3) they also offer 1 yr diploma courses.... how r the prospects for even a pg diploma holder or specialist dng this course as a hosp. administrator or mbbs with few yrs experience in a hosp. (maybe as a plain post)
the point is that to be a successful hosp. administrator.... us being doctors and that too on the management of a hospital , we have the upper hand since we will be the mediator between the management n the specialists (the tussle between them always being never ending)
n to be a good mediator between them i feel we shld have some experience as a clinician (if poss in a hosp) to be able to sort out the doctors issues ( coz we can look at the situation being in the specialists shoes)
I want to do the MHA
course for sure... but i really dnt see the point of us being doctors and hosp. administrators when we dont have the experience in a hosp. as clinicians
i might be wrong abt. it .... pls do gimme ur viewpoints abt this
also pls tell me abt the diff. in the two courses coz i want to do the MHA
but not an MBA
in hosp. administration
