I think 2 reasons:

1st is a jaykill said, i agree wid him. & second is the loss of anionic charge , d/t renal damage..glomerular rather

its because of its small size hence we talk about microalbuminuria, also with renal parenchyma destruction, the repelling property btw the -ve charge cell membrane and the -ve charged protein is LOST hence albumin smallest is first to appear.

basically,protein is not supposed to fillter out due to neg property of BM due to heparan sulphate,when in nephrotics conditions we see either glycosyalteion of BM making neg BM to positive so protein being neg in charge is attracte dto it and hence filltered out ===>indicates BM dis ,diabetes or other conditions!
