* Atropine does not inhibit gastrin response to a test meal in humans because :
1. G-cells are not innervated by parasympathetic fibers.
2.G-cells are innervated by vagal fibers and stimulated by gastrin releasing polypeptide.
3.Gastrin secretion is stimulated (increased) by direct action of amino acids on G-cells.
4.G-cells are innervated by postganglionic adrenergic neurons.

hi sreeku,
i've already put this up on AIPGE forum under the heading "mcq-food for thought".
But i got no response for the same there. (check that out too). so i put it up here too.

well check out ganong 22nd ed.
The Gcells are stimulate by gastrin releasing peptide which is the neurotransmitter secreted by post ganglionic vagal fibres that innevate the G-cells.

Quick Scroll ans to the question is 3 03.12.06 (2 years ago) #5

gastric acid secretion in the gastric phase is mainly stimulated by the release of gastrin from the G-cells in response to digested food products
Protein products and amino acids are particularly effective
Phenylalanine and tryptophan are most potent.

PYLOROOXYNTIC REFLEX: Antral distension ----> gastrin release accounts for
60-70% of maximal acid output after a peptone meal and the rest is by mechanical dilatation

Note that gastric phase accounts for 60-70% of meal stimulated acid output and it lasts until the stomach is empty.

I think this will settle all doubts icon_smile.gif icon_smile.gif . Reference Sabiston 17th ed pg 1272
