Let us get some basic facts right....
I dont know wat salabh saxena has against the armed forces - but it is definitely not that u need a father figure...No doubt he is senior to me and might have some experiences, but i feel how u lead ur life is a personal view....
What this forum is for is to give both a positive as well as negative aspect of life in the armed forces, so that u can take a decision on ur own, rather than discouraging or encouraging.
I'll comment on a few points made in this forum...
Firstly, being out in pvt practice, all of us know the competition one has to face to get either a well paying job or a pg seat. Compared to this, life in the forces is easier, simply bcoz the competition involved is much less... Atleast for a pg seat. And as far as the job is concerned, u have a regular time and paying job...The pay for us at mbbs level is much more than can be expected outside.
Work wise, yes there is some administrative work to do, but look a bit into ur future, and tell me, where do you find urself not doing admin duties?? Esp if u start a pvt practice? As far as exposure is concerned, well, compared to pvt, u do get tosee less no of cases, but it all depends on ur posting. In the initial years u'll be posted to peripheral units of the army/navy/airforce, where medical work will be less, and other work more, but only for 2-3 yrs...It is upto u to see that u keep urself updated. After that medical work is not a problem...
The whole procedure goes like this - once u r selected for ssc, u r required to report to a specific unit, where u'll be given some orientation. Then u'll be posted out to some peripheral unit for a couple of yrs.. U have 3 more yrs left, when u'll be posted to a bigger centre, and if u decide to leave u have time to prepare for various entrance exams. If u decide to continue, then at the end of 2 yrs, u apply for permanent commission, after which u give the armed forces pg entrance exam. The advantage is that there will be very less no of candidates and with good preparation, u can get into a pg seat of ur choice. As an exserviceman also u can give this exam, but the choice of seats will be limited.
Overall, i believe it is worth giving a try - and i'll be very straight forwrad. Tell me which place does not have its negative aspects?? The same is with the armed forces- its how we learn to live there and adapt....Where else can u get the kind of life u live in the forces??
