most inportant screening test for acute pancreatitis is

1. serum amylase
2. serum lipase
3. ERCP
4. CRP

1.)serum amylase!(not specific) is not the answer as it is increaseS in other conditions too...such as :perforated peptic ulcers,ruptured ectopic pregnancy, pancreatic pseudocyst! n also it returns to its normal value with in 48-72 hrs.

2.)serum lipase: yeah it's level remains sustained for 7-14 days ...so is specific...n is indicative of alcohol induced pancreatitis,while...elevated amylase represents gall stone pancreatitis....!

3.)ercp...obviously not...
4: USG is the 1st IMAGING INVESTIGATION but ct scan is preffered over usg!...SO THE SINGLE BEST ANSWER IS CT SCAN (RATHER IT SHOULD BE CECT SCAN!)

i also agree with Serum amylase bcoz together with history and Sx ..amylase woud be enough to confirm dx of acute pancreatitis...wat i guess?/??correct me...if am wrong

serum lipase is more sensitive and specific for pancreatitis and amylase may be normal in severe pancreatitiis
