i'm giving this piece of information which i know, wishing that it may help the needed. This is only to help the needy radiologists, but not at all promotional.

There are many registrar posts vacant in Manipal Hospital, Bangalore.
here the learning opportunities are simply TOO MUCH........
they have CR, mammography, Bone densitometry, 3D and 4D usg and doppler with High resolution probes, 64slice MDCT, 1.5 T MRI, PET CT and a coming up 3T MRI for research purpose, a well equpped cath lab with all interventions like TIPSS - everything for a new radiologist to learn and get experienced. They regularly do coronary angios. they get extraordinarily good variety of cases.
But the inthing is many posts are vacant and very few people know about it as they don't advertise it often. they are even in plans of starting a PDCC programme.
But one shouldn't expect good salary there (only 20,000 bugs). it serves one only for post doctoral learning.
it is a wonderful opportunity for new radiologists to learn and get best exposure in all modalities before starting off as a consultant somewhere and fall in money making. better to work at such a place for at least 1yr. but it is difficult as all young rad docs have alluring opportunities everywhere. and most young rad docs join some corp hosp due to the high demand and high salary offer. as you know once one is into money making, academics will go down. only the wiser will strive to become more good academically before settling down in life. i've seen young consultants who don't even know how to do an ordinary usg abd scan or a doppler with doppler. this makes a lot of diff in the long run.

even if u consider this information not worthwhile, pls convey this piece of information to ur friends so that some one might be benefited.

sorry to disappoint yu guys.but there is a reason why theses posts r not filled. as a registrar u get to do only xray reporting or max bariums orr if ur lucky few usg reporting only all the rest is done only by senior/consultant only and it is hiererchial here!!!!! to be able to learn anything else will require atleast 3-4 yrs of drudgery in xray/barium work so u dont get to even as so much glance into reporting of ct/mri-believe me its true-iv had first hand experience.henc nobody wants to work there .

That is true. though all modalities are there, the registrars and residents will not have chance of learning ultrasound, ct and mri as they cannot work there independently. all that they can do is report xrays and barium procedures.

but do not get disappointed. 'where there is a will there is way'. if you want to make best use of it, you can learn things even by only observing.

foreing doctors without mci registration can join there as a registrar or resident but not as a consultant. anyways, if your aim is only to work and learn, it should not bother you.

sorry but i would anyday prefer to work in NIMHANS yes i got to report mri as obsevor than at manipal wher all i got was xray xray as radiology is meant to be learnt by doing not observing unless u reoport a ct u wont get anywhere!!!! believe me i learnt that only in DNB in dmrd if i got to as much touch usg probe i was lucky!!!! and that to frm a so called reputed college!as one's time is very precious after pg -its only 1-2 yrs we get then we have to get into practise otherwise it isnt economically viable!!!! as most of us do need to earn we cant afford life long residency so it makes sense to choose which place to learn . manipal would be good fr those who already are adept with newer modalities and just need to get that so called experience in one's bonafide its fine .i learnt all my ct & mr reporting frm govt hospitals!!! yes absolutely no body teaches u or rather they dont know themselves but i learnt it the hard way-reporting interacting with clinicians and so much so i wud jump into ots to confirm the findings!!! and yes reading the right books helps a lot. i am telling all yhs coz i wasted few good mnths trying my luck in updating myself at these big hospitals and lost out a lot in the bargain. rest its upto u guys to decide .

doctor, it is interesting to share your views.

what is your advise for a post md radiologist who is from a typical government hospital and is not well conversant with the ct, mr and newer imaging techniques.

also you told you prefer to earn during your post doctoral learning after MD, then how can you earn if you work as observer in NIMHANS . they dont give any stipend, right????
