tracheostomy dun at the level between 1st n 2nd or between 2nd n 3rd tracheal rings is known as high tracheostomy or also percutaneous tracheostomy! icon_smile.gif

this is dun as emergency procedure, esp suited in critically ill patients! 8)

the advantage being dat the critically ill patient neednt be transferred to an OT or any other proper place for the procedure! 8)

plus also dat this procedure is too fast n final effect comparable to elective tracheostomy!

contraindication usually includes a struggling patient, unavailability of suction n proper lights n instruments n also of course an unexperinced doc! icon_lol.gif

the tracheostomy dun above this level,ie subcricoid level is considered to be a very high tracheostomy n usually not dun bcos of the complication of subglottic stenosis! icon_lol.gif

happy tracheostoming! icon_lol.gif
