I know that PG entrance prep takes a lot of time and hence internship is largely ignored for its experience. But one of the best places to learn practical medicine is the casualty department of any large hospital. Till your MBBS exams you have been classifying your patients as "Hernia, Hydrocele" etc in Surgical wards and "CVS", "Respi" etc in Medical wards. But it is in the casualty that the patient walks in with his own problem and now you need to find out first and foremost whether he goes to Medicine or Surgery or any of the other departments. Next you need to come to some conclusion about the urgency of his complaint. Lastly you take a shot at the diagnosis.
This is actually what you have been studying all these years to prepare yourself.
Also it is the best place to get hands on training for minor surgical procedures.
Learn as much as you can during your casualty posting (if your hospital offers it) and you will always remember it.
What do you think? Will the PG entrance prep leave any time for this experience?

Enjoy your internship experience.
Whilst you may prepare for your PG entrances, also use this experience to judge which field really excites you. Getting the marks in the entrance to get a subject and getting a subject you actually like are very different.
All the best

One of the most satisfying moments of your career will be when you provide "instant cures". This may sound crazy, but it happens.
Quite commonly Asthamatic patients walk into the casualty; breathing with great distress.
They know exactly what their problem is and almost with sign language they indicate to you that they need a bronchodilator injection. So your diagnostic skill is not even required but once you give them the injection, you can literally see their distress easing off.
You may have done nothing requiring great skill but the satisfaction is immense.
This is one of the joys of medical practice best exemplified in the casualty!
