nobody knows dear but i cut and paste an email of a frnd who has gone to the us via the mph route is applying for residency this year
let me try to solve these problem, and as far as I know I am trying to give u all detaile and hoping it will satisfy ur eager.
1. Yes its true I have selected this MPH route just because nehow you have to come to USA if you want to plan for residency here, either for CSA (Practicle USMLE
Exam) or for interviews after application in various hospitals.. Now the problem is US consulate has stoped giving Visitor visa for this CSA and Interview which was used to be the best way in past, you give your USMLE
computer exam in India, and get visitor visa for CSA and then for interview, if you get succeded, and get residency then good otherwise stay back in India, but now US consulate doesnt want this. So now most of the MBBS or MD student who are planning for residency here come thru the MPH. One more advantage of MPH is many hospital prefer you if you have completed MPH so it would increase ur chance of getting residency...
2. Well job prospectives are really good, but as i told u not like Dr. Dr here can earn easily 100K yearly while MPH can earn 50-60K and the other difference is satisfaction, after passing 5.5 years in medicine no body want to change the field. otherwise many of my senior here work as MPH faculty earning easily 60K and those guys have also done MBBS back in India, so its clear that whatever u do in US, you will definately earn good amount of money, its just matter of satisfaction
3.No difficulty at al, here infact professors willing to snatch you in PHD program, as tehy want you to start research, and if you do PHD then again ur job prospective and salary will be very high. One more thing abt phd program is university will pay all fees for ur PHD program so no wrry at all and on the contrary you will be paid by uni around 15$/hour and 20 hours/week so just calculate that amount.
4. well as soon you start ur USMLE
prep it is better for you as one thing is clear that you can not get residency of 2007 so u have to apply for 2008 resdicny and for that you must have completed ur step 1 step 2 and CSA exam before september1st of 2007.. Well it hardly takes 3 monts for eeach exam , and for CSA 20 days are more than enough but my advice is if you start sooner better will be for you.
Ask me more Question if any difficulties, i would love to answer those also.
Ok but think seriously and start thinking now,
this is wht i wrote
thanks for the help man and taking time out to help me
i have looked out for the info and would like to clarify on a few things
1.why did u decide to take on the mph route not the USMLE
route was tht coz of the visa
2.what r the prospects of jobs after mph have u any1 who got a job after mph
3.how diff it is get into phd after mph provided he does not get into residency
4.the applications part i will ask u later but when do u think i shud come provided i cannot start preparing before this december 2006
thanks
