Quick Scroll are 3 months enough for step 1? 05.04.08 (2 months ago) #1

I just took step 2 ck (worried about the result, but trying not to dwell). I need to enter the 2009 match, so I was planning on taking step 1 in mid-august; when i realised it takes at least 3 weeks to get your scores, I thought 1st week of August.

Are 3 months of full time studying enough to get a rockin' score on step 1? (note, i took 5 months on step 2 ck and still didn't feel prepared, but maybe that was just poor time management).

I decided to study from 1st aid, not kaplan this time(no time), but then i read in the intro to 1st aid that we should have step 1 and 2 ck completed by july, and that we should apply for eras token and get aamc ID in july.
Is that ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY? I doubt I can be prepared by july!

Also, I've seen links to externships on rxpg. Does that mean you can apply for and get them even if you're not in the US yet?

Personally, I bought the First Aid series because I don't have much time to go through the whole Kaplan series, although I might use Kaplan to explain parts of First Aid.

Kaplan Review for USMLE step 1 looks like a good review book (it's full of tables). Also, you can get the Kaplan and World Q Banks; I would consider them important.

In the end, different materials work for different people. There are lists of review books on one of the links(or more) on rxpg, so I recommend you look for those links for more info.

I think McGraw Hill is the publisher for 1st Aid; don't know about World-you can google it. Good luck
