Hi ash , one more favour ---if you cud line the subjects in decreasing order of importance (if it is fairly possible)based on number of questions
Like i know
Cud it be ......... Pathology>Pharmacology>..>neuroanatomy.....
Please suggest the sequence..............( i hope it doesnt sound a dumb question after such a detailed experience already written)..
.. |
Siyaa its hard to put it this way but still i'd write the subjects/systems/topics i found very HY. I don't think i remember what the number of Qs at all because its been some time now.. So you can consider my list as in decreasing order of weightage based on my experience.
- Pathology
- Immunology
- Neuroanatomy and Neurology
- Nephrology
- Behavioral
- CVS
- Pharmacology
- Oncology
- Endocrine including Ca Homeostasis and Acid base balance (Though more in CK)
- Biochemistry
- Physiology
- Microbiology
- Gross Anatomy
NBME says that it tries to keep the composition of Qs in the exam almost constant. So most subjects end up having similar number of Qs. What happens actually is, like CK many Qs belong to more than one subject and so hard to categorize.
If my guess is correct as to why are you asking this, I'd just add what i think about any subject being important. For me the subject in which i find myself under-confident/under-prepared, is more important. Like Path is the major sub for Step 1 but i studied it for the least time and did least Qs from it!!! That was because i felt i was strong in it and confirmed it while doing my Qbanks. I relied completely on the FEEDBACK
of the qbanks and NBME and worked hard on the subjects/systems/topics on which i performed poorly. That way i was able to economise my time and put my effort where it was most needed.
Just my confusing 2 cents..

My personal view is that it is better to take Step1 only after completion of Final MBBS because it involves a lot of clinical understanding. You can apply 6 months before you want to take the exam.
