well at this pt i dont think its worth putting money in a big book like GG since it will most definitely b obsolete by the time u reach pre pg stage...stick to tripathi..and you can always refer GG frm ur coll lib..also after u read a particular topic make sure dat u solve all MCQ of that particular topic from AAA and MARK DEM in your tripathi..it will take some time but beleive me it will help a lot..every time u open ur book for revision u will remeber those MCQS

infact all subjects should be read that way in 2nd yr..even robbins..especially Gen. Path... after u read the txt bk for the first time make it a pt to solve the topic wise MCQ's frm a book like AAA and MARK DEM in jur bk..and revise dem everytime u read..dis way ul b miles ahead of those who hav not read frm MCQ pt of view at all
it takes a lil xtra effort and time but IT IS WORTH IT...it might save ur 1 yr drop post internship...make good use of the entire 1.5 yrs..start from day 1

also 2nd yr is the best time to involve urself in research projects..ICMR projects can b a good ebemlishment in ur CV...especially while applying for DNB or USMLE /MPH..if u can get somthing published in a journal..icing on the cake..but for all this u have 2 keep ur eyes and ears open..keep an eye on departmental notice boards..take part in contests/debates/presentations..for eg mumbai has a Bombay Medical Congress competitition...

i am saying this out of personal experience..i deeply regret having a laid back chalta hai attitude in my UG days..but i cant change dat and im posting this so dat atleast som1 benefits frm my mistakes
Dont develop a one track mind..der hav been instances of brilliant students performing miserably in entrance exams and at such times their extra curricular but academic achievements like the ones i mentioned above helped dem secure a DNB seat.in good institutes..also it is equallly important to have good marks in ur ug theory xams...a distinction is a distinction and it will matter during DNB interviews and while applying for USMLE ..

life is not easy..u have to make urself stand out in a crowd at evry step..infact ur battle has jus started..remember well begun is half done..
