i think option C cuz though it is associated with congenital anomalies but they r relatively rare in gastroschisis as compared to omphalocoele

the only congenital anomaly associated with gastoschisis is intestinal atresia which is seen in 10 % of cases
the other anomalies being rare

omphalocele
*herniation of abd viscera thru an enlarged umbilical ring
*viscera - liver, spleen , SI & LI, stomach, GB
*covered by amnion
*d/t failure of the bowel 2 return 2 body cavity frm its physiological herniation duri 6-10th wk
* 2.5/10.000 birth
*a/w high rate of mortality (25%) , cardiac anomalies(50%), neural tube defects (40%)
* chromosomal abnormalities (50% of live born)
gastrochisis
#herniation of abd contents thru the body wall directly into the amniotic cty
#occurs lateral to the umbilicus , usually on the right , thru a region weakened by regression of the right umbilical vein
#viscera not covered by amnion or peritoneum
# bowel damaged by exposure to amniotic fluid
# 1/10,000 births
#increase may b related to COCAINE use
#not a/ chromosomal abN or other severe defects
#excellent survival rate
#volulus - kill large regions of intestine --> fetal death

Defects of the abdominal wall
Classification:
* Omphalocele
* Gastroschisis
* Limb-body wall complex
1 Omphalocele
Clinical signs:
* incidence 1 : 3500
* hernia in place of insertion of the umbilical cord
* the sac is formed by amnial membranes and peritoneum
* the content of the hernia depends on the size of the defect (loops of the small intestine up to liver in large defects)
* 30 – 50% of cases are associated with other malformations (anorectal, genitourinal, malrotations etc.), frequent at trisomy 18
* with omphalocele congenital short intestine is often associated
2 Gastroschisis
Clinical signs:
* less frequent than omphalocele
* complete defect of the abdominal wall (an aperture to diameter 5 mm) paraumbilically on the right with evisceration of the intestinal loops, separated from the umbilical cords insertion by a thin band of skin
* infrequently combined with chromosomal aberrations and genetic syndromes
