Plateau iris is a condition where the ciliary body is large and anteriorly positioned, thus altering the postition of the iris in relation to the trabecular meshwork and also the root of the iris in itself is inserted anteriorly..... This inturn obstructs the aqueous flow leading to angle closure galucoma.

hope this info was helpful... dsilva.gif

glad i could be of any help .... as fas as why its called "plateau iris" ..... hmmmm i think its coz of the gonioscopy appearance .... the central iris is flat, and the peripheral iris has a very steep curvature into the angle, closely resembling a plateau .....
