Hi guys. I was searching these forums regarding the tips for DM
gastro prep sometime ago and I found none. Just to help someone of my kind who just by happens to browse through these forums. I could only help you with the AIIMS
entrance as I have gone through only that exam along with CMC (I did not attend this interview as I already got thru in AIIMS
). Sleisenger through and through atleast twice and all important topics (no marks for guessing what these are, just the bread and butter topics which we see regularly) one more reading. A quick refurbish of the entire sleisenger in the last 10 - 15 days is a very important thing, so plan things accordingly. If you read Harrison it is really helpful, but it is not a must. But when you read Harrison, you will definitely realize how much of Sleisenger are you able to retain and reproduce, so it will definitely and atleast act as a checkpoint. Nutrition esp. vit def in Harrison is a must. Dr. Y.K.Joshi's book on nutrition (the book is small) from jaypee publications is really helpful in the practical questions on nutrition and you won't find them in slei/harri/working in wards. Sleisenger pretest is helpful in highlighting some points from sleisenger, but it is not a must. No need to do Bharavi or other MCQ books. Go ahead with the old papers of AIIMS
(not available in print, you have to collect them from peer preparants, seniors and others who already got into DM
) and strictly only AIIMS
papers while appearing for AIIMS
entrance. Some fav topics in AIIMS
entrance are GIST, celiac sprue, intestinal parasites, malabsorption chapter, absorption Physiology
, electrolyte Physiology
in intestine section, misc disease of anorectum, cl. difficile, infectious diarrhoeas, viral hepatitis, liver Anatomy
, intestine blood supply, practical clinical applications in biliary system, genetic pancreatic diseases, acute pancreatitis, cystic neoplasms of pancreas, h.pylori, maltoma, ipsid, diff b/n ibs and chr constipation, ibd genetics and management, pregnancy incl. Physiology
, gerd to name a few. For the interview and practicals, clinical gastroenterology by rajeev kumar is very useful, also go through practical management of ugi bleed, acute pancreatitis, acute liver failure and invst of obstructive jaundice. Donot miss air under diaphragm on x ray when they show one, and you have to identify the site of obstruction on radiographs in cases of obstruction. You also need to be well versed about s-b tube, ng tube and its markings, mehengini's liver biopsy needle. Sorry if i bored you, but you are always welcome if you need any help.
