anybody here has any experience with doing an elective in US or Canada , how much does one have to pay ( including registration fee, tuition, malpracice insurance.. etc)? I just want to know whether to apply or not cuz only application costs 400 US Dollar in average.

clinical electives is not equal to intership. Plus its not that easy to get clinical electives and you need to pass USMLE for that and its expensive too.

id like some information here 2. Some are still claiming that its not recognised as internship.!!.

An elective or observership in the states is NOT the same as an internship.
As per my knowledge, there is no hospital in the US that will allow an Indian graduate to do internship without first taking step1.. although externships, observerships are very much possible. But they dont give any hands on experience since u arent allowed to touch patients, so is there really any point on going to the US just to shadow doctors?

Speak to your college, if they agree to write off an observership as internship and u are planning on practicing in India, then it shouldn't be a problem.
I am at KMC Manipal and the administration here is very strict on these issues... they will not accept observership as credit for internship, for obvious reasons. So before going ahead with it pls CLARIFY the details!
