hello everybody
ms surg OF GOVT MEDICAL COLLEGE iN PATIALA .......IS BAD
.
only 6 units. NO workload. OT LIST GENERAALLY BLANK IN MONTH 1-2 cases in good units ????
no super speciality EXPOSURE
work CULTURE IS REALY BAD
U MAY BE PULLING TROLLYES IN OTS...as no class 4 employees work.NO student UNION so studens are scolded everywhere. .
no advance management.
teaching is avg.not many full timers. another college in state is faridkot ,amritsar
Faridkot is a district place with less twachers no work .
Amritsar is good college is well known for SURGERY
LOTS OF POLITICS IS THERE If u r a cool minded GOD FEARING THEN DONT JOIN IT .U MAY HAVE TO GO TO VILLAGES TO COLLECT PATIENTS & MONEY FR ....bo...THEN ONL Y U WILL BE GIVEN THAT CASE TO OPERATE OTHER WISE U WILL BE WORKING ON FLOOR
SOme thing is better in Amritsar that thet teach u in handling money ,collect money ,politics, fights ...in fact they will give u two degrees in three years one MBA
other MS gen surgery
last year ther were 4 seats of surg. in aipg only one is continuing ..rest 3 persons have left the course.
overall i would say dont keep it as ur preference....not a good place for getting pg exp.

I fully agree with JASPREET. i m a graduate of patiala n can only say u dont do MS surgey but a MD surgery n call urself MS(master of suturing).u 'll get a GREAT exprience in doing DRESSINGS,getting scoldings 4m acting heads(there r no proffessers).
u 'll realise d imp of money nd contacts(here no official work occur without them).u ' ll pass in flying colours by becoming a corrupt n mean doc who know nothing abt sx.

180 beds.
6 units. each unit headed by a professor. 8 professors in total.
5 units do laparoscopic surgery (only 1 unit at amritsar)
OT lists are heavy in 4 units, around 8-12 major cases per list.
Heavily equipped OTs with C arms, harmonic scalpels and endostapler guns, with an in house endo-trainer in the laparoscopic OT for the training of residents.
12 seats. 6 for the all india quota. unit allottment is rank wise.

good units operate around 700-800 major cases per year,
minor cases are around double that figure.
so in all a good option provided u get a unit among the top 4.
