HI friends,
I am writing this on behalf of junior doctors of Patna medical college and hospital, Patna. We are protesting against the manhandling and assault by few media people on Thursday. Since the issue involves the media we doctors are being projected as criminals and nonbailable arrest warrants have been issued against 12 of our friends. At this hour of crisis we are in desperate need of support from all junior doctors across the country. The incident can happen with any of us we need to stand united and protest.
Let me tell you what really happened:
1. Few reporters from two local Hindi newspapers came to orthopaedics emergency on Thursday around 1 pm. they entered the duty room as attenders of a patient and started asking few questions. But the patient was not yet brought to the hospital. Our colleagues clarified that without examining the patient we cannot help you. They got agitated and started using abusive language. The doctors asked the security guard to intervene but these people started fighting with the guard. When the doctors tried to calm the situation an accomplice of theirs was photographing the whole episode from the window.
2. The whole sting operation was preplanned and these media people executed it brilliantly of which we didn't have a clue till we saw the photographer.
3. When we questioned the lens man he said "even your father cannot stop me from taking pictures, you mind your own business". Of course he used foul language which I cannot write here. When we protested they ran away from the scene.
4. We started working normally after the whole episode only to realize after an hour that a mob of 200-250 media people and locals are surrounding the emergency with lethal weapons. They entered the emergency and assaulted three of our colleagues pretty badly. Other doctors on duty somehow escaped from the mob by hiding in sterilization room and called all other junior doctors seeking help.

5. The whole mob started pelting stones on other buildings of the hospital and damaged vehicles of doctors. When other doctors came to emergency to help they were also beaten up. Then the mob targeted the gynaec department and misbehaved with our female colleagues.
6. They blocked the road in front of college and started throwing stones in PMCH campus. As usual police was mute spectator to the whole episode.
7. The next day the newspapers printed a whole different story that junior doctor have assaulted the lens man and broke their cameras. The whole story was twisted and presented implicating us as the real culprits and criminals. They filed a FIR against twelve of us and pressurized the government till the court issued an arrest warrant against doctors.
8. Now the police has become real active and has done raids on our hostels looking for our colleagues. They even threatened us.
9. The government, general public everyone is convinced about the story presented by the media. The government is not ready to talk with us. They want to arrest the innocent doctors and want us to stop our protest.
Friends we junior doctors are being segregated here we have no option but to protest against the injustice done to us. We really need your help, we want you people to support us at this hour of crisis, and we want you to wear black badges and protest against it. Forward the message to every medico and junior doctor across the country. we need to stand united and that's our only strength.

OBVIOUSLY ALL THE RESIDENT DOCTORS OF THE COUNTRY ARE WITH U...BUT U KNOW THESE PEOPLE FROM MEDIA,, THEY ARE SO INFLUENTIAL NOW A DAYS DUE TO THE REVOLUTION IN ELECTRONIC MEDIA...IF U WANT REALLY WANT TO ACIEVE SOMETHING,, U SHD DO SOMETHING MORE THAN WHAT IS GOING ON RIGHT NOW,,,i.e.--U NEED TO UNITE OTHER JR'S(INCLUDING PGS) AND SR'S ALL OVER THE COUNTRY,,, AND THE ISSUE SHD BE OF SECURITY,,A UNIFORM KIND OF SECURITY ,, BECAUSE OF THE MERE FACT THAT THESE KIND OF INCIDENTS HAVE BEEN OCCURING NOW AND THEN ACROSS THE COUNTRY....AND ALSO SENIOR FACULTY SHD SUPPORT YOU FOR TYHIS CAUSE ... ONLY THEN ,, I THINK,,SOMETHING BETTER WILL COME OUT...

why dont u people take help frm IMA??I think if they extend support,it will be an acievement...

yesterday the senior docs from our college also extended their support. they took out a procession along with us!
they have told the govt to solve this matter within 3days else they will give mass resignation.

the IMA has also agreed to help us!

there is some hope now.

the worse thing is that the govt is so against us .
everday we have statements from cm against the docs. e.g. no forgiveness, cancellation of resignation. etc.

what really amazed us that the mob was trying to reach the hostel and attack the students there. it was really very daring and foolish of them. but we had the news beforehand and were ready and confronted the mob in b/w the path.
some of them even carried pistols and fired 1-2 rounds. but it was brave of the studs here that even though they chased them out of campus.
thank god for that.

oh my God! i had no idea that things had come to such a pass in PMCH....

that's too bad... i hope things have become better now... any solutions yet?

solutions are these:

the PG docs who were named were suspended.
there is an incident abt that. when the health dept asked the princiapl dr rkp singh to suspend, he declined; saying he'd rather face the suspension himself, than suspend his students who r like his kids.
so the health dept suspended him and brought the nmch principal here on deputation ands then suspended the jr docs.

Now the suspension has been wihdrawn.
but the case is still there and jr docs had to resume their work.

coz the chief minister said that he is nearing election in dec-jan so he can in no way go against the media.

zenith of selfishness, nadir of justice, and exploitation of public by the media.
