no such update nor improvement is seem to be there in for foreign medical pg degree holders . the govt has not yet announced its stand on this , but its promise to have a cet for foreign pg degree should be on the process .

but once if your ug is recognized by mci be it directly ( being done your ug in india ) or clearing your screening test for FMGE by the mci then you can legally practice in India , this doe not only refer to Russian or Ukrainian degrees but even to UK , US , Australian , New Zealand , Canadian or any European degree .

being completed your pg does not mean that you may not practice but can practise with your ug degree recognised by the mci , but with your foriegn pg degree can not apply for a job in any government hospital in India.

for eg : a doctor completes his MBBS from India where his ug degree is directly recognized or a doctor with foreign ug degree and has passed his screening test , then postgraduate degree in General Surgery from India or else where , and then goes to UK or Canada or Australia or US to complete fellowship training and becomes FRCS (UK) or those given by the respective countries .and doctor comes back to India and applies for a Professor’s job in government hospital, he might get that job (if at all), only on the basis of his M.S (Surgery) degree from India or any which he has legalized after his mci screening test and not on the basis of FRCS degree from the UK or from else where . even when there is a competition for Indian or foreign degree

and we always know the foreign degrees such as FRCS ( UK ) has high value in private sectors and is in no way underestimated to any Indian pg degrees , but since Indian students goes to Russia / Ukraine for ug & pg in a large number than any other nation these degrees attracts a lot of attention to press and public and creates a wrong image that only Russian / Ukrainian degrees are not recognized .

but the truth is that none of the foreign degrees are recognized in India and in turn no Indian degrees are recognized in any country without a common entrance exam this applies to all the degrees from UK , US , AUS , NEWZELAND and beyond .

do write if you need infos not available here .

Hi Dear Pearlly Sun,

Many -2 thanks for ur prompt reply.I have gone through the report sent by ur kindself. This question of MCI recognition is of great concern for all of us. I got selected for DNB Paed. Surgery in a very premium hospital at delhi but had to leave due this problem. Can we use right of information act route to know about the prospects of a foreign PG screening test. There was a news in TOI and HTimes about soliceter general M. Subramanium telling supreme court bench for holding a foreign PG screening test on 13th March 2007. Kindly find out as it appears some thing is cooking up at MCI/MOHealth about this topic.

Regards,
