Quick Scroll randomization 2006 03.14.06 (2 years ago) #1

THE MAJOR PUPOSE OF RANDOMISATION IN A CLINICAL TRIAL IS----
[A] FACILITATE DOUBLE BLINDING.
[B] ENSURE THE GROUPS ARE COMPARABLE ON BASELINE CHARACTERISTICS.
[C] HELP ENSURE THE STUDY SUBJECTS ARE REPRESENTATIVES OF GENERAL POPULATION.
[D] REDUCE SELECTION BIAS IN ALLOCATION TO T/T

ACCORDING TO PARK'S THE ANSWER ARE B & D.....SIMILAR QUESTION WAS ASKED IN AIIMS MAY 2003 WITHOUT [D] OPTION THEN THE ANSWER WAS [B].....NOW WHAT TO DO IN SUCH A SITUATION?....I MARKED [B] IN THE EXAM....

B fits best....obviously the foremost purpose of randomization is to ensure groups are comparable in all the characteristics except the intervention...

i think option d is correct .i'l go with the explanatino given in mudit khanna that while it increases the chance of comparability in baseline characters of the two groups -it does not ensure it.but it definitely does reduce selectino bias .so option d is the most appropriate answer .
