Please, I just want to ask what is the chance of getting accepted in a residency program if you graduated from your medical school more than 5 years ago??? I really want to know because some people really disappointed me when they said if you graduated more than 3 years, then you have no chance to be accepted in any residency program. I am really sad and under stress and I really want to know how true is that? Does anybody know anyone who has been accepted into residency recently, RECENTLY like in 2007 or 2008 and graduated long time ago??? Please let me know. Thank you very much in advance.

No,it is possible even if one is more than 5 years after graduation. It is not impossible at all.it is possible.
Have u been in continuous clinical experience since u graduated? If it is so,then it is a plus point.
Also ,read my replies to the above posts as well.

Thank you very very much for your reply, I was very in need for the reply, actually I have been doing my internship, worked 2 years and then I went to a unversity and got a master degree and did the PLAB exam, therefore it took a long time, the student visa in the uk has expired and i could not stay in the uk, and now looking for another option like USMLE , but it seems that by the time i apply to a residency program in us, it will be more than 5 years ... so i don't know the chances.

when u say chance is a chance means there is no formal decision!!! I heard it is formal, if you graduated long ime ago, no chance of residency for you!!!

I think u got it now.

There is no clear cut and definite time limit to apply to a residency program ,however, it is a commonsense the fresher you are the easier it is .
