well to do part 1 of MRCPsych
exam, you must have 12 months of UK experience in Psychiatry
at post graduate level. The only way you can appear for part 1 MRCPsych
is to come to UK after clearing PLAB
and find a training grade job in Psychiatry
for one year.
The other way is to look for international recruitments for psychiatrists (which is becoming rarer day by day). For that you need to have a post graduation degree with a thesis (MD) and three to five years of post post -graduation experience at a teaching hospital (SR level). If you get a job offer in UK in this way and get registered with GMC, then you can apply to royal college of psychiatrists for recognising you post graduation degree at par with MRCPsych
. You would not need to take MRCPsych
then.
Having said that, you do not qualify for the second option (as you seem to have only a diploma), and the first option is long and tedious. There might be better prospects in Australia
if you start looking (at least better than UK), but there also the process is quite ill defined.
All the best.

unfortunately as things stand anyone not in the system currently in the uk will not be able to do any training jobs which are a requirement for the MRCPsych
.
given this why do you want to do MRCPsych
. there are myriad options in india after dpm. hell if you want to get a foreign degree go to the us. at least its in your face fair and they dont change the rules every month
cheers and best of luck

Stepswould be-
Pass MBBS
You can give IELTS
during your intenship and PLAB
1 in india after intersnhip- 3-6months
come to uk, give PLAB
2- 6 months
After passing, apply for attachments and do an attachment- applying and getting takes few months if you havent applied from india.
After getting an attachment- Feb and Aug are times when rotations start.
Rotataion is a 3 yrs basic specilisst training prog. The whole thing, depending on your luck and grit , can take anything upto 2 yrs till u start your training.
I agree with others in this post, that this is a difficult and uncertain time for medical careers in UK. If you are commited to doing psyhciatry- you will have to maximise and do more than most people do.
What I did was-
Even though I didnt have a post grad qualificatin from india, I worked in a psych clinic untill 5 days before I flew. Please attned psychology sessions (tsesting nd cbt) as they are an useful experience in India.
Read british journal o fpsych to develop your areas of interest. Its important to know what is happening in the Psychiatry
feild in UK. This will enable you to devlop your whole CV in a particular direction right from the start.
Be serious during the attachemnet. I use to attend all oncalls - day and nights- with the SHO I was shadowing. So muh so that the cnsultant started asking me instead about patients and patinets recognied me more than their SHO. Ask to do an audit with someone. Try to attand any free courses , teaching in the attachment.
talk to people. Theres no point doing 3 months attachmenet in one dep waiting to get a job. If you dont get a job, use your consultant to introduce you to toher peopel. Adult, substance misuse, child, old age. 1 motnh each makes ur cv look better than 4 mnths in adult. Be proactive and ask to go and attaned vrious things- cmht meeting, CPAs, out pt clnic.
People like independent thinking and initiaters. All siad and done, motivation is a hard thin to susutain, when you are in a friengn country, away from your supportive network and insecure due to lack of money, security etc.
Thats when RXPG come s in right?

Hi Pujalix,
Are you still in the UK and if so, what have you been doing? Is it difficult to get training posts in Psychiatry
in the UK?
