Quick Scroll Google Chrome 09.04.08 (4 months ago) #1

Hello,

I tried out the newly launched google chrome browser. Its definitely faster than mozilla and has a snazzy look. But I've got two weird problems with it:

1) I can't log in to RxPG on that browser, I had to return to mozilla to log in. I ensured that I got the basics correct..CAPS LOCK turned off...correct nickname and password...also imported all the bookmarks and settings from mozilla.. but it still keeps saying 'Sign In Incorrect, try again..'. This seems to be unique to RxPG because I tried logging into other forums and sites and it worked just fine.

2) Although I imported my bookmarks and settings from mozilla (it even displayed a message saying that bookmarks and settings were successfully imported) I have not been able to view my bookmarks in the bookmarks bar. the 'Other bookmarks' button shows up empty. Tried out their Help section but no use.

Can anyone help me with this please?

Hey, I'm sorry I seem to have accidentally created the same thread thrice! I'll edit the post but wasn't able to delete the thread. Moderators, could you please delete the other two threads?

I heard of this new browser and tried to download it just now, surprisingly the Google chrome installer "Downloading Google Chrome" box just shows up & finally it says Failed download! I am on High speed internet & my firewall is not blocking the download. It must be some snag in their server. Will try to download it again later.

Reviews say its good. Since its still in its infancy it has to grow a lot to compete with Firefox. Promising browser indeed. Anyway i am sticking to firefox, i really need the Digg, Stumble upon, Delicious, RSS feed integration of Firefox & other stuff like grease monkey/FEBE/WOT/foxmarks for a more productive utilization of my online hours.

Quick Scroll Re: Google Chrome 09.05.08 (4 months ago) #5

Tried Google Chrome. The download took some 30 minutes in my PC. (No its not my internet connection, i also downloaded opera 9.72 (8MB) in <1 minute while Google Chrome was being downloaded)

My initial impression, - way too young. Its an infant.
No option to set master password!!
I am switching back to firefox.
Will try it again after a few months when it gets out of the Betas.

Try it again. I was able to Sign In into RxPG right now with Google Chrome.

Well, sadly it seems that the 'bookmarks bar' shows only the bookmarks made using Google chrome! The imported bookmarks doesn't seem to appear in the bar.

Hi BGM,
What you suggested worked! But that is in itself surprisi ng , because the default setting for cookies in chrome is 'allow all cookies' So practically speaking, I didn't change any setting , merely opened the options menu and went ' under the hood'. Anyway it worked!

But the weirdity doesn't end there. You may have noticed the two Quicklink boxes near the top of every RxPG page. One is for jumping to a RxPG Forum and the other is for jumping to RxPG sections. (its in the same line where your RxPG Credits are written in bold, below the RxPG big Banner.) There's a 'Go' button beside each box. Well! these buttons are absent when i open the site in chrome! Its as if chrome is selectively editing some features out of this website! Pressing 'enter' after selecting the desired forum too didn't work. I had to go to 'my threads' and reach this thread from there.

I'm going back to firefox too! icon_confused.gif icon_smile.gif

Such rendering problems will be there when we use a website using a new browser. I remember using the first beta release of firefox 3, it was having lots n lots of bugs. Its the first beta you see, things will get better when it progresses to the 3rd/4th beta.
So till then a more stable browser like Firefox or Opera would be the best choice.

I think I'll stick with Firefox for a while...
specially considering the security issues chrome has been having lately
