I know blogs are publicly accessible on internet but I cud notice that they have this option to make it private to render content invisible /restrictedly visible, I was wondering how safe and sound this security is . I landed up asking considering the things I heard about orkut and other sites. If anyone is aware of any security loophole in private blog OR any other potential issue is more than welcome...... if some one can share.
Thanks.

Hi Siya,
No setting in internet is 100% secure. The only ones with 99.9% foolproof security must be the online resources of FBI/CIA icon_smile.gif
All other resources(even microsoft itself

) are susceptible to illegal intrusion.
So its always advisable not to post personal sensitive data in internet.

Blogs are like online news magazines. Their emphasis is more on open sharing rather than restricted access.

There are safe routes but there is VEHEMENT opposition against those technologies. Encryption is possible in many email clients and only the person with the right decryption key could get the content. There was once a potential terrorist threat that was intercepted but since it was encrypted by some open source encryption script, and even its own author could NOT do anything about it ... how does it sound ? FBI ... was the one who intercepted it, if I remember right !

Open source encryption systems are available ... but again this applies to the loss or stealing of data via packet hijacking ... Regarding blogs, it is always safe to keep it as public as possible- Meaning only those that you wouldn't mind shouting to a gathering of 100,000 .. they are safe there.

Anothe issue apart from safety is the risk of PIRACY! It pains when you put in all hard work to post/create something and then someone uses it somewhere without as much as a reference/permission and worser still claims it to be his/her own !!! Aww.. plagiarism is one of the banes of the internet world!
