Everyone is aware of the present conditions in Odessa, except the freshers.
It's the job of the agent or the contractor to relay true and relevant information about accomodation.

Life is expensive in Odessa, there are no two ways about it.
People who believe it is expensive and they can't afford it, should not attempt to go there. I know many people who come to Odessa, think it's too expensive, because the contractors didnt give them the real idea, end up living in below-poverty level conditions, try to spend nothing on food, and try to dine with their colleagues, spending their money. And then they rant year long about the bad and thrifty conditions in Odessa.

You shall get what you pay for. Life is expensive in Odessa, just as it is for any other place. Inflation has risen all over the world. Have realistic expectations from Odessa and Ukraine, you shall be fine.

Even in US, Universities dont provide dorms or hostels for all their students, so OSMU doesnt take your responsibility either. Again I reiterate, have realistic expectations and be ready to spend much much more than you contractor actually tells you.

And lastly be ready to live in flats and to spend an immense amount of money. Your university demands only 3000 dollars as fees for the entire year, that is quite cheaper than what you pay in India. Be thankful for that, and be ready to spend on accomodation , food & transport.
On an average, for a single person, in a good area, it might cost 200-300 dollars per month, sans electricity and gas bills.
You might have to spend money on beds, carpets, curtains , bedsheets and stuff like that. You have to foot the bill of your own transport, if you choose to travel in the bus, like everyone does, it will be very very cheap.

And before everyone complains about Odessa and the conditions they are living in, remember that it was their decision to go there. And they have no one else to blame but themselves.
