Quick Scroll CaRMS Application: Elective section 06.02.08 (7 months ago) #1

I would like to know what should we put in 'Elective Section' in CaRMS application. I mean in India we did clinical rotations in almost all subspecialties as a part of MBBS and Internship curriculum, and not as Elective in the real sense of the word. So can we mention those in Elective section?

This question is important becos' many programs mention their preference for candidates who have done more Electives.

Any suggestions would be welcome

Hi Neerja
just explain in your personal letter that you didn't get a chance for any elective time at your university. all the rotations were part of the core program. and that you have trained in a broad range of specialties. i donot see this would be a problem.
also dont worry too much about it. if you have done anything after internship just highlight that as your preferred specialty or sub specialty if this is so. this is just to show your commitment thats it. If you donot have any such experience, then work on getting a few letters of reference through observership/externships. this will help in building your CV.
hope this helps

Hi,

I just ran into the same problem, too. All my electives (16months total) were required by my school, but I still got to choose my disciplines and such. So I listed them under electives and explained in the med school description that they are not really 'optional'. Hope that works...

And where to put observerships?

It's like writing a novel!!!
