Well as regards teaching units in Punjab
for FCPS Psychiatry
, the department at Mayo Hospital LHR is one of the best. It's fully established with all equipment e.g. ECT etc. U can find other CPSP approved Psychiatry
training units from CPSP website. Unfortunately I don't have much info regarding the books.

Hi,
Actually i took part-1, 6 years ago. I am not sure if the exam structure is still the same. That was the first time that they intoduced multiple choice questions.
I spent 4 months in the preparation and I was very confused as well as did not have much guidance from anyone about the syllybus etc.
First thing you would like to do s to ask for the syllabus from CPSP office for Psychiatry
part 1 specifically. I got it of Rs 50/- at that time. I am sure it must be for more than that now.
I studied only the basic subjects and concentrated well on Neuroanatomy, Psychology and neurophysiology.
I cant remember if Biostatistics
was included in the syllabus or not ...you probably would need to check that as well.
For Neuroanatomy, I used Snells and High Yeild as well as 'Neuroanatomy made rediculosly simple'. For neurophysiology I used Board Review Series.
For Psychology I managed to get a very good and simple book in the hospital I used to do my house job in. The name of the book was 'Essentials of Understanding Psychology' by Feldman. I must say that this book was amazing. So easy to read and understand that I used it even later for my MRCPsych
.
I did not touch a sigle book of Psychiatry
for that exam although I must say that I read High Yield Psychiatry
during my house job in Psychiatry
which might have helped me. There were lot of questions from Psychiatry
came in the exam and I felt down when I met other people in exam centre mentining that without reading books of Psychiatry
one can not pass the exam.
Altough I passed that exam in first go but I still think it was much difficult than MRCPsych
( or may be at that time it seemed a lot more difficult)
All the best for your exam.

I am not working in Pakistan and quit my training for part 2 after year and a half (back in 2003). Unfortunately I dont have any contacts in pakistan who have recently sit in the part 1 exams.
Regarding Psychology, all I can suggest to you that it is a must read to pass this exam ..atleast it was the case 6 years ago.
best of luck
