HI every one,
Regarding the MRCS
exam, there is
MRCS
1-
composed of Applied basic sciences
no entry requirments, u can apply after graduation
MRCS
2 -
composed of clinical sugery
u need to start your BST ( Basic Surgical Training) to appear in MRCS
2.
u have to clear the MRCS
viva within 3 years (I think) after passing the part2.
So the thing is U can take the MRCS
1 now, and after starting your BST u can appear in MRCS
2.
Please also note that u are free to appear the MRCS
1 or the MRCS
2 first. But for the MRCS
2 u need to start BST. I hope to clear you.
Please visit and for details.
I would like to set up a web site to help us surgeons in these matters. Any positive inputs please mail to

HI Bent,
Thanks for clarifying the 3 and half years part as I was not sure ( I mentioned it as well). Well regarding the MRCS
syllabus there are no fixed books to follow. And if u ask the Royal College they will go on to mention the name of those books which we may never go through in our life .The recommended reading list in any exams are exhaustive. As for any other exam it is best to ask the people who passed the exam about the books they followed.
I guess as Sarah Khan has mentioned, the BRS series for Anatomy
, Physio, Patho and Micro will cover the part 1. Any inputs from those who appeared the exam will be valuble.
Bye 8)
