The Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (Nims) would start new departments like Gynaecology , Paediatrics , ENT and dental wings as part of the upgradation process.

The institute will also acquire latest equipment for serving the poor and needy patients, Nims director Kakarla Subba Rao said in a release on Tuesday.

The institute will make all efforts to compete with the corporate hospitals in the health sector and discharging of social responsibilities, he said.

The Nims gave concessions to the extent of Rs 74.24 lakh to both in-patient and out-patients during the past three months.

Subba Rao said that the institute has been treating all types of accidents and trauma victims in the emergency medicine department, he said.

The emergency department of the institute is fully equipped to treat accident and trauma patients. White card holders are being given maximum concession in treatment charges, the Nims director said.
