dear colleaques i finish my PLAB on may. i am doing an attachment at the moment in medicine, as it was the only post available for me, and i am interested in surgery.
my consultant he allready mentioned that he is going to offer me a locum post in medicine. i am very confused because i have no experince in surgery in this country and all the oportunities i have are from medicine. could someone advice me what to do and how to proceed? do i need to leave this post and look for another attachment in surgery? are these medical posts to be a disadvantage for me when i will apply for surgical posts?

thank you in advance for your kind replies:)

hi bluecity,

since i haven't got a job in surgery so far i don't think i am the best person to answer you question but from what i know, one important step in surviving here is GMC registration and PFT visa, and i think your locum should be able to help you in that regard.

the best thing to do right now is to sit with someone who is already doing training in surgery and discuss with him/her the prospects, and then decide how much you want to do surgery, and why you like surgery. if you are keen on doing surgery, then try arranging for attachments in surgery, and hopefully you will start moving forward.

all the best,

wolf
