Quick Scroll Premorbid in Schiz 02.03.04 (4 years ago) #3

Schizotypal PD is more common than Paranoid PD in pts with schiz. 'Schizoid' is not! I guess the answer, in the absence of Schizotypal PD would be Paranoid PD.

Quick Scroll Puzzled....(if schizophrenia is a disease) 04.15.05 (3 years ago) #4

Hmmm.....

I'm curious though as to why there is no biological proof that Schizophrenia exists. No physical test present to asertain the presence of an abnormality.
In medicine, strict criteria exists for calling a condition a disease: a predictable group of symptoms and the cause of the symptoms or an understanding of their Physiology must be proven and established. Chills and fever are symptoms. Malaria and typhoid are diseases. Diseases are proven to exist by objective evidence and physical tests. Yet no mental "diseases" (as schizophrenia is called) have ever been proven to exist.

Quick Scroll Is schizophrenia an illness? 09.21.05 (2 years ago) #9

You may find that the solid ground that you feel you walk on viz. Medical Illness based on objectivity is not so objective after all.
For an interesting comprehesive discussion of the issue, you may find the following useful:

Fulford KWM (1989) Moral theory and medical practice. Cambridge University Press

"medical diagnoses are no less value laden than the psychiatric equivalents and that it is simply false to claimthat they rely universally on accounts of organic dysfunction" - SG Potts
