Although definitely schizoid personality disorder is sometimes precursor of schizophrenia, whether it contributes the maximum among all the personality disorders, is not found..

It is c/b a persistent pattern of social withdrawal..

DSM-IV diagnostic criteria are:

A. A pervasive pattern of detachment from social relationships & a restrictd range of expression of emotions in interpersonal settings, beginning by early adulthood & present in a variety of contexts, as indicated by 4 or more of the following

1) Neither desires nor enjoys close relationships, including being part of a family
2) Almost always chooses solitary activities
3) Has little, if any interest in having sexual experiences with another person
4) Takes pleasure in few, if any, activities
5) Lacks close friends or confidants other than first-degree relatives
6) Appears indifferent to the praise or criticism of others
7) Shows emotional coldness, detachment, or flattened affectivity

B. Does not occur exclusively during the course of Schizophrenia, a Mood Disorder With Psychotic Features, another Psychotic Disorder, or a Pervasive Developmental Disorder & is not due to the direct physiological effects of a general medical condition.

If criteria are met prior to the onset of Schizophrenia, add 'Premorbid', e.g. 'Schizoid Personality Disorder (Premorbid)'.

Low-dose antipsychotic medication is useful in some situations.. sometime antidepressents & psychostimulants.. psychotherapy..

Hmmm.....

I'm curious though as to why there is no biological proof that Schizophrenia exists. No physical test present to asertain the presence of an abnormality.
In medicine, strict criteria exists for calling a condition a disease: a predictable group of symptoms and the cause of the symptoms or an understanding of their Physiology
must be proven and established. Chills and fever are symptoms. Malaria and typhoid are diseases. Diseases are proven to exist by objective evidence and physical tests. Yet no mental "diseases" (as schizophrenia is called) have ever been proven to exist.

I am saddened by this doctor who posted the statement.

Countries and companies used Psychiatry and psychiatric diagnosis to ruin employees careers and put citizens into prisons. That's why Psychiatry is a very dangerous field. There is no lab tests and you can say anything to put someone behind bar and defend your action.

If you break into an employee's house and follow him, you can defend yourself by saying the employee is paranoid ! So you can get off !

Got it ! You can commit murder by saying you are insane !
