the main thing is if anyone from overseas wants to stay here in uk, they should be in either Psychiatry ,gp or Anaesthesia .gp is the easiest way to stay in here and after 3 year gpvts rotation u can practice as a gp, and with new contract coming in 2006, u can opt to work in the most flexible way and u can earn the same or more than any consultant within 3 years. In England 2 times gp rotations are advertised and we have to apply for each deanery seperately, whereas in scotland it is advertised only once that is in november for the next year august rotations, this year it is advertised this weeks bmj, there are 126 rotations and the last year many asians are shortlisted and selected for scotland gpvts,(scots are very friendly),so i will advise all who had passed PLAB part 2 to apply for these rotations as previous uk experience is not a prerequisite for selection to scotland gpvts.,any advise u can ask me,, by the way i am in one of scotland gpvts rotation.

If you are a GP in UK Or a soon to be..... you coudn't have asked for better days!

GP's in UK are in the best position today. High Salaries sometimes better than consultants, flexible working hours and many other benefits.
GP locums are sometimes paid upto £100 an hour!

But getting into GP training isn't easy.
With thousands of jobless overseas doctors in UK.... every second person passing PLAB applies for GP VTS.
Now some deaneries they have introduced an mcq exam.
And they have day long interviews testing you in various ways.

Nevertheless it is definitely worth giving a try... and if you do get in the GP VTS.... consider yourself blessed and celebrate.

From Aug 2007.. for GP training/ST1 ... priority will be given to those completing FY2.

It is best to complete FY2 before considering GP training or any speciality training for that matter.

Good luck.

I am very sorry for the disappomtment, but let me give you a sincere and honest advice, the job situation in the NHS UK is the worst compared to any days during the whole UK history!!! and the problem is in order to become a GP, you should finish GP training in the NHS which is doing job cuts for british nurses and firing british consultants and doctors just for stupid reason. Remember the exploitation of doctors when their work experience is not considered as part of their experience, jsut because they are not in what they call 'training posts' , remember the staff grade posts where doctors are only given money thats all, and they are not given NTNs for their work and experience, name it what ever you like but unfortunately this is the truth.

think about foundation programs, stopping the SHO posts, abolishing of permit free training since 2006, what do all these mean? Think about what they say in the BBC when they frankly say: 'British citizens are concerned about immigration' without being shy when they say that, on the other hand they say we do not discriminate, we treat all people in equal opportunity. I give you a sincere advice, if you want to take their exams, take them, not for the sake to work or settle there, but for the sake of improving your knowledge
