Q.1. How many questions are there in Parts 1 and 2 of the Intercollegiate MRCS (Surgery) Examination?
Answer: Part 1 has 90 questions and Part 2 has 150 questions. Note: Part 2 will consist of 180 questions with effect from the diet to be held in April 2005.

Q.2. What is the duration of Parts 1 and 2 of the Intercollegiate MRCS (Surgery) Examination?
Answer: Part 1 is 3 hours and Part 2 is 2½ hours. Note: Part 2 will become a 3 hour examination commencing at the diet to be held in April 2005.

Q.3. Is there a set pass mark for Parts 1 and 2 of the Intercollegiate MRCS Intercollegiate (Surgery) Examination?
Answer: No, there is no set pass mark. There is a standard setting procedure using the Angoff method whereby for every examination, a group of health professionals judge which questions they believe candidates should be able to answer correctly and a pass mark is then set accordingly for that particular paper.

Q.4. When will the Syllabus for the Intercollegiate MRCS (Surgery) Examination be available?
Answer: The Syllabus is now available to download from the Exams Database or the Intercollegiate MRCS (Surgery) webpage.

Applications and Eligibility

Q.1. I have passed the MCQ component of the Collegiate (old-style) MRCS MCQ Examination, am I permitted to apply for the new Intercollegiate MRCS (Surgery) Part 3 (orals and clinicals) Examination?
Answer: No, you would be required to apply for the Final Assessment of the Collegiate MRCS Examination in Surgery in General under the MRCSEd Regulations.

Q.2. I have passed Parts 1 and 2 of the Intercollegiate MRCS (Surgery) Examination. Can I apply for the Final Assessment of the Collegiate MRCS Examination in Surgery in General?
Answer: No, you are required to apply for Part 3 of the Intercollegiate MRCS (Surgery) Examination.

Q.3. Do I need to provide a log book and trainee assessment forms for the Intercollegiate MRCS (Surgery) Part 3?
Answer: No, these are only required for the old-style Collegiate MRCS Final Assessment in Surgery in General.

Q.4. Are candidates who hold Section A/Part 1 of a Fellowship Diploma or a full Fellowship Diploma entitled to exemption from any part of the Intercollegiate MRCS (Surgery) Examination?
Answer: No, candidates who hold a full Fellowship Diploma or part of a Fellowship Diploma are not entitled to exemption. Such candidates would be required to pass all parts 1, 2 and 3 of the Intercollegiate MRCS (Surgery) Examination.

Q.5. Am I required to provide evidence of 24 months of training in recognised posts for the Intercollegiate MRCS (Surgery) Examination?
Answer: No, the requirements for the Intercollegiate MRCS (Surgery) Examination are a basic degree acceptable to the Councils of the Colleges for entry to Part 1 and commencement of basic surgical training (this does not have to be in a recognised post) for entry to Part 2. You must provide certified evidence of this training on Page 3 of the Intercollegiate MRCS (Surgery) Examination application form. Please see the full Intercollegiate MRCS (Surgery) Regulations for more information on the entry requirements.

Q.6. Will the application form for the Intercollegiate MRCS (Surgery) Part 3 Examination be different from the Collegiate MRCS Examination in Surgery in General?
Answer: Yes, there is a new separate application form for Part 3. This is now available to download from the Exams Database.

am one of the doctors who apply for MRCS exam, wher i tried part 1 and 2 first time on january 2004 and unfortunately i did not pass. I want to apply again to the exam but i noticed in exam informations that you have three and half year from first attemped to part 2 to finish all parts .

So in my condition can i apply again to MRCS exam. If not,what can i do becuase i need to have post graduate qualifications in surgery , please help me......

HI i am a MS (ENT ) from india and planning to give MRCS part 1 & 2 tog in jan 08.I do not have training from here but from what i gather one is eligible to give both the parts. any comments
