Well,if this is of any help...
1)for southern blotting to be considered +ve in aids,as per the new harrison,Abs to ALL the 3 major viral components ie gag,pol and env have to be present..(not just 2 as used to be touted before)
2)also,lipodystrophy is now a recognised adr of not just hiv protease inhibitors, but also thymidine based nucleoside analogues(azt, stavudine)
3)a condition in which paradoxical downgrading can be seen on initiation of HAART is PML
4)antiretroviral therapy initiated with any of the following
Acute hiv syndrome
Chronic symptomatic hiv syndrome
Chronic asymptomatic hiv with any or both of-- cd4+t cell count less
than 350 or decreasing(mentioned 250 at another site) or hiv-rna load
more than 50,000 copies/ml or increasing.
After accidental inoculation.
5)The next class of agents in rx of aids are the fusion inhibitors which
inhibit fusion of hiv transmembrane glycoporotein to cd4+ cell surface
--eg, enfuvirtide.
6) Nucleotide analogue used in rx of aids...abacavir
now, a few of these points are repeats...a few are not..i just mention these cause i jumped directly from 14th to 16th..and these (among others) seemed the noticeable changes to me..others who have noticed new changes, pls contribute
and by the way, folks who have'nt yet got their 16th..get it..it's been revamped ,and how..and the genetics/autoimmunity chapters are great.and for folks(like me icon_biggrin.gif )who dont have much hope of gettin through this year,it'll be a life saver in the years to come.
i'm itchin' to lay my hands on schwartz's 8th too..has anybody had a dekko at it?
