Quick Scroll Debate: NZ as a career option? Not a good idea! 03.02.04 (4 years ago) #1

I've gotten internal news that even though the NZ government needs doctors....its doors are basically closed for foreign medical graduates.Despite passing their really tough exams(and mind you which are more expensive---about 3000NZ dollars)you may end up not even getting a postition let alone a work permit. One of my best friends who is really smart and one of the toppers in the class gave the clinical exam in NZ and failed miserably....even the passing rate is very very low!Its upto you whether you all wanna try....but believe me its really hard.As for the US forget it.....after sept. 11 their doors are basically closed to medical grads from the sub-continent.Its time consuming and waste of money......some people don't even get visa despite scoring 99 in both steps(and if they were terrorists then what are doing scoring such incredible marks!) so its just not terrorist it must be something else which is making the US govt refusial of visas.

yes you are right for usa but I don't think this is the scenario for NZ. they really have slots for doctors. After clearing NZREX one gets either internshi(if he hasn't done house job) or a medical officer job. I personally am in NZ and I live on rent. My home owner works in Univ. hospital and she says that there are a lot of junior doctors as well as consultants.
You know competition is every where. Many ppl clear exams and many fail to do so. Its not about previous record. I think after graduation things change. It is totally a different game when you ask about post graduation.

hey you.you seem to set a bleak image to most who'd like to get out of the xtry they come from. a topper who failed does not mean he is gd at hands on or able to apply knowledge and integrate systems on a real life case.what you seem to imply would rate a topper to be infallible.a topper is an academic regurgitator not a gd doc.
next time try to put theory aside and work with a different attitude..be humble....and perhaps you may succeed...eventually.
p.s...i am a doc..gone thro the same path but with perseverance and a difference in attitude...am also a gold medalist and topper in my hey days..
