as far as i know, in prognosis of ac pancreatitis we would be looking for whether it progresses to chronic pancreatitis , more severe disease or resolves.

gall stone pancreatitis if detected early and in a surgically fir patient, an ercp with sphinterotomy would lead to a complete resolution. such a prognosis is unlikely with either alcohol or in a idiopathic cause[ since u dont know the cause here , what r u going to do about it ].

yes going by the fact that gallstone type more commonly causes acute pancreatitis, which can b relieved by prompt treatment procedures, ans goes in favour of gallstone.

I could not think about idiopathic, but yes the logic goes that if cause is unknown then there is nothing tht can be done about it and so prognosis cant b good.

Thanks tallpox.
