dear drs

i should inform you getting a job in AON and achieving in positoon in rural aeas is not as simple as you think !!
first you should have a job offer ( it needs have a gp experience at least for 4 years but it deponds on the carateristics of job)and after that you must be assessed by medical board of the teritory it can takes lots of money and efforts icon_sad.gif The most important matter is language U must be fluent in English otherwise you should spend lots of money to spend your life.

Application for suburban posts of Medical officers I have learnt are assessed by a solicitor then submitted to the board for approval . once selected ur contacted for interview . By the u must be ready with an IELTS band score of 7. If selected you r sent 4 yrs work visa and posting.

Can somebody confirm this info ?
How much does it cost for assessment in the board?
How long does this procedure take ?

The procedures differs from state to state but in general, IELTS is now compulsory in almost all the states even for the AON jobs. Most of the states have made this new rule from 2004 or 2005.

If u have more than 3 years (in some cases 2 years) experience, then u are eligible to apply in AON jobs. Once u get a job offer, u will need to send all the required documents to the medical board and they will grant you the conditional registration depending upon ur period of job offer. (I think the registration is granted for one year at a time and then renewed yearly) The registration fee also varies but it is round about 500$ for one year. Plus your travel expenses. I don"t think u will have to pay for your assessment or interview. But if you have come through a recruitment agency then maybe u may have to pay for some interviews and sponsorship fee.

@lasp22: The AMC mentions that they can do a Video Conferencing for the interview, but thats only on paper. u need to be personally present in front of the Regional Medical Board to do that...This answers ur other question too.. The Employer however, WILL do a telephonic interview to assess the candidate b4 putting up the Board Assessment request...
