hi , MMST is not a good course at its presence existence is not worth it. all the faculty is from iit itself which dont know about the medical field at all, and moreover they are not convinced when the facts are presented to them. as such it is a new course , not many companies either know about it. summary , not the right time to join the course . may be after 4 -5 years it will be of some use icon_sad.gif

hi everybody,

I have completed my 2nd year in MMST .

According to me its not a course to be considered at all. IIT is making a mockery of medical graduates by strating a course like MMST . There are no facilities, no qualified faculties, no hospital support, no job oppurtunities after the 3 year course.

After the course the only recourse is to do a PhD and i dont think a medical graduate can do justice to what he has learnt in the past 5 1/2 years by doing a PhD in mostly a non-clinical field...

And dont fall into the tagline of MMST - research oriented course...there is no research going on in IIT-KGP and after studying 20 ill conceived subjects in 2 yrs a MMST graduate is the least suited to do any kind of research. According to me the best position to a MMST graduate is managerial which unfortunately no companies are offering presently...

Presently dont ever think of writing MMST exam. But now there is a proposal to start a medical college in IIT KGP, which may take another 5-10 yrs, after which the course may flourish...but until then look for other avenues.

icon_smile.gif icon_smile.gif icon_smile.gif hi,

congragulations kgpian for making it to iitkgp.

about the subject-cannot wait till the course gets some prominence.but i do not agree with dear kgpian and femina regerding the course content.it is what it was supposed to be.the aim was to make doctors speak like engineers.the aim was to learn biology from an engineer's point of view.and after all it is just a masters degree.not a full fledged research degree.it only orients one to engineering.but specialization to be still earned.but kgpian is fully right in saying it is a mockery of medical students since after proclaiming clinics there should have been at least some serious clinical rotations.as for phd, most phds are non clinical.more over the subject essentially is non clinical.also kgpian, you must be into your project by now.have fun.but do not forget to tell u where you did it.

bye.all the best

But unfortunately the IIT engineers view about biology is almost always wrong. more so about medicine. and they try to impart their half baked concepts into us, which at times becomes unberable. And when we point out the mistakes they are not gracious enough to accept it.

mohankrishna wrote:

What do you mean by that? A masters degree is not a childs paly. If after doing a masters degree i am still in the position where i started what is its use? If due to some problems i cant do my PhD, i have to go back to my MBBS degree and do GP. I will not get any job under the present circumstances. SO WHAT I HAVE STUDIED FOR 3 YRS IS OF NO USE AT ALL.

And dont say that the conditions will improve once job offers come in. I see only 1 or 2 positions for MMST graduates in a company. So all positions will be saturated very soon.

hope you understand the position.

hi kgpian,

sorry man.i neither meant to belittle master's degree nor am i demeaning your experience.may be i got it all wrong.what i believe is that the intention behind such a course is genuine.may be the practicalities have gone haphazard.but i will not comment more.but will you please tell me where you intend to do your project.nothing personal.ok?i do not want to hurt you.

be positive,all the very best.bye.

hi,
even I know there is nothing personal in this. But when putting our words in a public forum which has the potential to influence the decision of many doctors, I just dont want a false impression to be created about MMST .

Everything that can go wrong has gone wrong in MMST . Therefore my suggestion to all is - forget MMST .

I am still in search of a project. I dont want to get out of India. So i am in talks with few companies but nothing has turned out yet.
AndThanks for the wishes. I need them.

Bye

hi kgpian,

good thing you did not take it personally man.and no need to thank for the good wishes.you will get lots from everyone here.good luck for your project.

but you know what.i thought highly of iitkgp.did not believe things would be really bad.i had read some negative things of MMST in this forum itself, but it was too bad to be true in an iit.also there were some appreciation from mmstians themselves.

but,if this is the case with iitkgp, what about iit-k,iit-b?they have some similar programs.hope they are being more responsible!!!
