hi,

mohankrishna wrote:

but you know what.i thought highly of iitkgp.did not believe things would be really bad.

thats exactly the problem. nobody believes that things are bad when the institute under question is an IIT. Thats why i want more and more people to know the exact facts before they join IIT-KGP so that they wont get disappointed later.

mohankrishna wrote:

but,if this is the case with iitkgp, what about iit-k,iit-b?they have some similar programs.hope they are being more responsible!!!

Only IIT-KGP has MMST course running. Other IIT's are yet to start with such a course. May be a biomed engineering course in IIT-Delhi in collaboration with AIIMS would serve the purpose.
IIT-B has a biomed course running since few years and FEEDBACK form Doctors who have done the course is negative.

hi guys....was a little busy with the exams....
first of all thanks to kg for informing that the facilities and the scope is really bad..but wats been bothering me is why should iit run such a programme and spoil its name if its of no use....
i have been looking into biomed engineering in iit...seems a lot of physics...we need to have some place where we could do justice to the 5 yrs of clinicalpratice in medicine...phd thru GRE is expensive...if you can afford it tat wouls be great..i am looking into other prospects..will inform as soon as i get substantial information

hey,i am here after a long time and nothing much has changed.i thought i may get help here.....any way,i would believe that a ms or a phd in india is the best option to get into a technical line.one of the ways is to write entrances for these courses in Indian universities.the competition is sky high.but then it has to be endured if there is no other way.one can take up the csir-ugc jrf exams, clear them, attend interviews and if lucky get selected.any more info.inform if you have anymore..

Hi Dr. Minto & Dr. MohanKrishnan, KGpian & other knowledgeable members on this Thread,
Im Really interested interested in the way

MMST has been portrayed....some all praise for it,

while others having been dissillusioned. What stands

out is the fact that so many Docs are interested in

trying something different & want to pioneer in

medical sciences...Such an approach is definitely

worthy of praise.
I dont want to discuss the merits or demerits

of MMST degree in IIT ...but would rather like to

know what is the scope for Interdisciplinary Sciences

as the ones being provided by IIT viz. jobs, pay

scales, etc for any Doc willing to pursue

them...whether in IIT or abroad....Also is there any

such degree as MMST in the west....if not a degree is

there any other way to enter hi-tech research

oriented fields in the US...where are they

offered.....can u pursue such a course after

USMLE ....can one still pursue such a career after

completing or during a residency in the US...

Thanx.....will Grateful for any replies

hi,

Medical engineering is nothing new.Engineers have ventured into medical science since ages.It is only now that professionals who have a Biology background are having a chance in India, especially doctors like us though that is not the case in US.

Biomedical engineering in US is 30-40 years ahead of what it is here.It is possible to change tracks in US too. There are more oppurtunities than here in India. However I am not sure about USMLE helping you.Though i have no intentions/attempts made in that direction, all universities want GRE and TOEFL .The admission is for MS/PhD.I am of the opinion that this field is more of research and requires aptitude for the same.Kindly think of it before venturing.

Is MMST better than doing an MBA .How can a doctor be a master of technology without having any engineering back
ground? How he can be a master in medical science ??
He can obiviously act as abridge between the widely seperated
branches of med and tech as now a days medicine is more and more hi tech . How is about the placements ?? Is there any initiative in the iit side? As being a new and unique course ,IS IT KNOWN TO the companies in biomed field??

Hi,

MBA -Master of Buisiness Administration.

MMST -Master of Medical Science and Technology.

Do not compare both. They are poles apart.

Why should it mean that a doctor cannot become an engineer if he is ready to learn the subject?

Kindly research all the previous posts and other threads here for all your questions.

Wish both of you all the success.may u achieve what u desired.
