Well Dana,
Welcome to this thread. Yes it would be pretty nice to sort out the visa issues on this thread.
The best way for an IMG to go to US is to give his USMLE and go on a B1/B2 visa to give step 2 in US. And then do residency there. This is the legal way. But as you know for every law there is a loophole.
The other way to go to US is to pass GRE and TOEFL and then apply to US universities in courses like MPH, mol. bio, etc. Get selected get an i-20 from university and go on a F1 visa. The legal way, but if you go there and leave your studies and give USMLE and search for residency, its illegal.
The third is to go to US on an J1 visa which is for exchance student program visa, so if your college has such an exchange program, this might be your chance.
There are many other ways and loopholes, which are there to the visa business, but for the time being i hope this much is enough.
Do feel free to post anymore questions you have regarding the visa issues.

Hi Dana,
The best and legal visa for giving step 2 USMLE exam in US is a B1 visa. Please do let me know a little of your profile so as to help you better. Like if you have given step 1 or are trying to go to US via GRE and then will give USMLE ?

Hi dr_anweshi, You are very much welcome to join this thread, as they say, the more the merrier
No need to worry friend if your F1 visa has been rejected. Please go through all your material such as transcripts, GRE and TOEFL scores, your i-20, your financial documents and then ponder over the fact what went wrong in your previous visa interview. Where are all the loopholes and what things could go wrong.
The only thing that you have to prove in F1 visa is that you are just going there to study and as soon as the course finishes you are going to come back in India. And you have to do all this in style(read as confidence!).
May i know a little on your profile and your interview and what was the explanation given by the consulate for your rejection.
As you have already tried for US visa via the MS comm health route, it would be a little unwise to go to directly to US for USMLE . It would be noted in their system database and could create problems for your B1 visa. SO my sincere advise is that you try againf for F1. If that doesn't work then maybe try for B!, but i forewarn you it wiould become really difficult for you to get visa like that.
Hope this helps.

Hi Dana, Do you really want to take the longer, tedious and expensive route to USMLE ?
Why do you want to goto US on a F1 visa, then do an illegal thing of changing your status and then apply for USMLE .
I don't see any distinct difference in giving your USMLE steps 1 an 2 ck from India and then go on a B1 visa to US for step2cs and 3 respectively.
But if your plan is to go to US and then give exam, then B1 visa is not for you. You will have to take F1 visa and goto study in some graduate college in US.
Hope this much is helpful, do revert back if some query remains.

thank u advisor. i was not asked much during the interview. the man asked to c my TOEFL (297) and GRE (1390& 5) scores, my mbbs degree certificate and the finiacial certificates. actually they r my uncle's. he works abroad and has agreed to sponser me. but i think that is the reason why i was deniedvisa............the fact that i am depending on my uncle. he only told me that the law presumes that all applying for visa are potential immirants and i ahve not been able to convince him otherwse. and now another problem is that i am not able to find dates for appointment b4 dec. i have to join the course b4 jan4.
thanks once again for ur reply.
and i would advice dana that the F1 route is a litle risky.......as if u r denied the F1 the B1 becomes all the more difficult to get. think abt it.
