Hello Advisor,
I have just completed my MBBS and planning to go abroad for higher studies. I am actually interested in appearing for USMLE but I was told by many of my friends that getting visa through USMLE is very difficult!! Better to go through GRE and to appear for USMLE from america itself!!
So, I just wanted to know what is the risk in appearing USMLE directly from india now.... also are there any specific pre-reqisites to be fulfilled before applying for Visa so that one can get the visa for sure??
Pls help me out as it won't be affordable for me to just appear for USMLE without guarantee to get the Visa!!

well...csa visas are being given easily this year...but u never know what wud be the scenario next year when u n me will be applyin....

also its diff to get research work or externships when u go via B1 visa...coz even if u get a visa max stay is 6 months...many get for 1 month only also...its highly uncertain...u also have to gv step 3 there...so many obstacles in limited time...plus u cant make any contacts in that much time period...

advantage of GRE route is-
1.F1 visa very easy to get if u have all documents ready...plus a handsome GRE score above 1300 which is very easy to get
2.u can get into research work more easily by applyin in such universities which have attached hospitals...so u can get into clinical research rather than epidemiological research n this wud gv u many contacts n LORS...
3.u stay there for 1.5 to 2 yrs...u get experience of US system imp for u also n for PD also as they want someone who has been into this US system for a while
4.if u get into some renowned universites then it will make ur CV v strong

disadvantage-
1.more money n more time...only this ....

but it is definitely a safer route...coz suppose if we consider the worst scenario that we dont get a residency then atleast u wont return india wid empty hands u can always do a PHD or jus get a job on mph basis n still earn more than ur counterparts in india...

so its highly subjective opinion...

u have to take ur own decision...

my plan is to clear step1 n 2 b4 comin to usa...

@sohil

Hi mate, once again. I really appreciate you reaching out and helping other with any information that you have got but please do not double post your questions (in more than one thread) this breaks the continuity of the discussion flow.

I have replied to the same question in the other thread over here

i think the best visa for entering usa is "pallu visa". dat is marrying a us citizen girl. while applying for residency interview theyll be impressed by our legal status coz we r saving their head ache of filing visa

Have you ever considered the repercussions of marrying a US citizen (indian or non-indian origin) who is brought-up in a separate socio-cultural environment than you?

Give it some thought and then decide if you really want that residency so bad that you are willing to sacrifice your life (or maybe the values of your next generation).

I'm not stereotyping, just generalizing what I've seen.

well its not necessary dat ull spoil ur life if u marry a us citizen. there r many indian girls who do all sorts of unethical and bad things even when they r brought up in conservative families. on the other hand there are many us citizen girls who have adhered to their morals. its not that all indians are good and all americans r bad. good people and bad people exist everywher on earth.
ur not sacrificing ur life, in fact ur giving a good boost up to ur career by marrying a us citizen.
it is u who will be at advantage if u marry a us citizen.

I agree with your argument too. There is no black and white. I don't want to spark off another debate... those were just my 2 cents of advice: Just consider other options before going for the last one icon_razz.gif
