hi dr danger,

looks like whatever info you have is true.i have been sharing views with kgpian who is presently a student at MMST , in rxpg, probably in another forum.he is saying the same thing about lack of everything that is needed.there seems to to be very less oppurtunities here in india with just MMST .and suppose one cannot study further, there is nothing else one can do.

i was very optimistic about the subject per se.i still am.but not with with iitkgp.appears as though iitkgp wanted to just conjure up something in a jiffy which actually needed a lot of preparation.kgpian calls the subjects 'ill-conceived'

if you want to go the bioengineering way i feel a direct phd works better.it saves time, gives good experience, and at the end one actually has a research degree which fetches job as a researcher.may be it is not as easy as i say but definitely worth what it is

hi dr_danger icon_smile.gif icon_smile.gif icon_smile.gif

sorry if i misled you man icon_sad.gif icon_sad.gif icon_sad.gif .it was a wrong usage of language.do NOT attach any significance to the word "direct".what i meant was instead of the longer route to phd after completing MMST ,mtech, etc, why not go ahead for phd straightaway after mbbs?it will save 2-3 years.also there is value for a phd from a good university which is not the case with masters.but masters course definitely helps in adding to the experience and bettering one's cv.that way getting a phd admission is easier.

serious research impossible without phd.so no alternatives.without phd one has to settle for 'visiting fellow','research assistant',and such posts.

but if you have any info lrt us know.thanks.all the best.bye.

hi dr_danger,

i think by now you already know whatever i know about foreign univ.it takes a GRE and toefel for US universities.many offer courses similar to the MMST (no clinics though) .job is primarily as a researcher.we may work in premier labs in the world if good in whatever we have chosen.but what are your views on this.please post your views.

all the best.bye.

hi guys..i am a second year MMST student..its true that the course has it flaws..but its very tough to design a course to make the doctor happy and give them the technical edge..but people are happy after this also..things are changing and till now none off our seniors ever tried for a job becoz of getting a good stipend abroad..but recently one of our senior got a job in phillips..if you have got through and not interested in clinics then you may come..but doing direct Ph.D is also possible..but not on everybodys part...MMST surely gives you an advantage tag of iit.

hi drcm,

thanks for giving us your firsthand info.but believe me i have discussed on this very site to one of your freinds in iitkgp and the impression i got was a lot different.please go through all the other threads and you will find out what it was.i have read two kinds of opinions from iitkgpians.one praises the course while the other totally rubbishes it.it is difficult to understand how students of the same institute, also so few in number can give such views that totally oppose eachother.kindly post replies( with some details of course ).pleaaaaase.

all the best.bye.

ya mohan i am sure you must have got a good picture..but dont you think that its an out of the track course and it needs time to build up..ya its not well managed but if you are a in a mood to quit clinics and cannot go in for a international school for furthur studies i think this can give you an opportunity..but its true you have to do everything on your own..no spoon feeding..any more thing you want to know do ask.
