thanks for the reply.i am an intern,a bit overworked, and hence could not answer quickly.sorry.i want to be there in iit.it might be MMST or anything else like a phd.it might be now or later.i am serious about being a biologist.but also understand that for a doctor it takes time.MMST is a good platform.i was and am very optimistic about the subject.i beleive that the subject is not new but offered rarely to doctors and hence appears very new.it is an exiting science.i am not someone who will squirm about lack of infrastructure.but it really bothers me when i hear people speaking of the course as though it is a waste of time although i still do not believe it.just give me some details.what are the students like,their projects,their research experience etc.

Thank u for such an elaborate and well- informed clarification on the subject of MMST .

I was advised about MMST by so many when I just ended up securing a remote rank in the AIPG 06.

The scopes were highlighted, so much so that I had inclined very much towards getting involved in it.

But ur post has helped me to be realistic in the way the new branch is. As always, a newer stream when started, has some vague advantages to its aspirants. It has to learn from some hard core experience of its own to stand firmly on its feet.

The MMST is too at such a primitive stage (at least in India).

And after some effort into this Medical field, i feel the continuation of the same is more fruitful for me. & moreover i am not all interested in going abroad.

A bird in the hand is worth 2 in the bush.

And I appreciate ur confidence about its becoming a BIGGGGGGGGGGGG HIT one day. It rightly has to.

Hi Dr. Minto & Dr. MohanKrishnan & other knowledgeable members on this Thread,
Im Really interested interested in the way MMST has been portrayed....some all praise for it, while others having been dissillusioned. What stands out is the fact that so many Docs are interested in trying something different & want to pioneer in medical sciences...Such an approach is definitely worthy of praise.
I dont want to discuss the merits or demerits of MMST degree in IIT ...but would rather like to know what is the scope for Interdisciplinary Sciences as the ones being provided by IIT viz. jobs, pay scales,etc for any Doc willing to pursue them...whether in IIT or abroad....Also is there any such degree as MMST in the west....if not a degree is there any other way to enter hi-tech research oriented fields in the US...where are they offered.....can u pursue such a course after USMLE ....can one still pursue such a career after completing or during a residency in the US...

i was getting very skeptical with the oppurtunities and the scope the course which otherwise sounded a very promising course..like IIT Brand..the interdisciplinary course... the research training ..but knowing about the lack of job prospects was discouraging me.

U have helped me a lot to streamline my efforts..

hello anyone doing MMST from iit kharagpur? i have done mbbs from kgmu lko.,and joined ms gen surgery from ucms delhi,but i was allways intrested in research field and now got frustated from clinical.i am seriouly thinking to join MMST , but in dillema about kind of research and scope afterwards,if u can help,it will be nice,waiting for
