in congenital hypothyroidism also constipation usually starts from birth and because of decreased gut motility as a whole why the ampulla should be full of feaces and why should he pass bulky stools?

characteristic feature of functional conctipation is that ampulla is full of feaces as given in the options

so i think most appropriate awnser is functional constipation ,rest it is upto you people to decide

In congenital hypothroidism constipation may not necessarily start soon after birth, symptoms are subtle and become more evident weeks or months after birth.
But still there is something missing in the question like anyother physical feature or symptom of hypothyroidism.Thats why i placed a query in front of my answer.

In case of Functional constipation, its a problem that arises when attempts are made to toilet train a child, ususally seen after 2years of age.

Hi Sangi...But Hirschprung disease can also present at a later age..
Encopresis means faecal soiling...the question does not suggest that...

Large bulky stools are seen in Hirschprung..male child...

I think its Hirschprungs..
Tell me is there and PSYCHIATRIC involvement in Functional Constipation..??
icon_rolleyes.gif I'm confused..

hi Sangi..SORRY!!! U r rite...I got my concepts a little confused...
In Hirschprung...yes they will present from birth..or later..usually a male child...but there is CHRONIC CONSTIPATION and the stools are described as small PELLETS....

Sorry for that confusion..
