*KNEE JOINT: CONDYLAR SYNOVIAL JOINT
METACARPOPHALANGEAL JOINT : ELLIPSOID SYNOVIAL JOINT
STERNOCLAVICULAR JOINT: SADDLE SYNOVIAL(structurally) and BALL & SOCKET (functionally)
ACROMIO-CLAVICULAR: PLANE SYNOVIAL JOINT

*Knee joint is a synovial joint of bi-condylar variety. It is a biaxial joint since 2 paired movements are possible, namely flexion & extension (in transverse axis) and locking & unlocking(in vertical axis).
-In locking & unlocking the femur rotates on tibia (or vice versa) on a vertical axis
-KNEE JOINT IS ALSO CALLED AS MODIFIED HINGE JOINT !
But as we know hinge joints (e.g., elbow joint) are uniaxial joints, we can't simply apply the term to knee joint.

Uniaxial joints are of 2 type: Pivot and Hinge

BCE: Biaxial joints are of 2 types-Condylar & Ellipsoid

*Meta-carpophalangeal joints are Ellipsoid variety of Condylar joints. This joint has condyles carrying elliptical articular surfaces-and better known as Ellipsoid synovial joint, as is wrist joint !

Multi-axial joints are also of 2 types: saddle and Ball & Socket

*Sterno-clavicular joint is saddle synovial as it's articular surface is saddle shaped.i.e., it has convexo-concave articular surface. 1st carpo-metacrpal joint (thumb) is also saddle synovial !

*we should also be aware of the fact that though sterno-clavicular joint is structurally called as saddle synovial....functionally it is considered as ball & socket synovial....since functionally it has the same variety of movements possible as that of shoulder joint- a B & Socket joint.
